In 2003, H-P Metflo introduced the Instalok™ Coupling, the first major innovation in tube coupling technology in over 50 years. In addition to costing 20% less than its predecessor, the compression coupling, the Instalok™ offers the following advantages:

1. Better overall system performance: Since the Instalok™ uses an O-ring seal instead of a gasket, there’s a better seal in both vacuum and pressure applications. The use of O-rings also eliminates the possibility of water seepage into outdoor material/vacuum lines.  

2. Less dust and fines generation in plastic processing applications: The Instalok™ is designed to automatically align tube ends, so there’s less of an opportunity for pellet shear.

3. Reduced contamination: Instaloks’™ metal on metal clamp provides a positive engagement that greatly reduces tube movement. As a result, there’s a reduced opportunity for pockets to develop where pellets can be trapped during line purges. Additionally, with no gasket, the threat of abraded gasket material in the line – and thus in the end product – is eliminated.

4. Quick installation: By the use of 2 bolts that can be rotated to fit tight spaces, the Instalok™ can be installed in half the time that it takes to install a compression coupling. Simply slide one tube end into the Instalok™ and tighten the bolt. Then, do the same thing on the other side – there is no need for a complex bolt tightening routine.

5" & 6" diameter couplings come standard with red silicone o-rings.  All other sizes are offered with black or white nitrile o-rings.  Viton o-rings are also offered for higher temperature applications.
